About - CWB Moonah Design - Boards

I have been making these Charcuterie Boards at Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria for several years. Design and style have evolved into something I am proud of, and it is pleasing that when folks see my boards, they usually want one. I hope you do too. I just don’t think photos do them justice as it is the play of light on a board that brings out the highlights in the timber grain. And getting the photos exactly color true is near impossible. Of each design or pattern there will at most be three that are similar but usually there is only one.

The wood for my boards is sourced in part from offcuts from previous furniture making projects. This is a way of using these offcuts which might otherwise be wasted.  Offcut pieces are usually combined with a special piece from my collection of high grade or exotic timbers to create the desired board design.  Making furniture is my hobby and making boards is a hobby so stock may run low or run out at times.

These boards are made by hand using in part mechanised tools.  A piece of timber is rarely perfect and offcuts almost never so.  I try to deal with any flaws and holes / cracks but it’s a natural product and there will be flaws.  I think it’s part of the charm of each piece.

Why CWB Moonah Design?

Because my workshop is surrounded by Moonah trees, a type of Melalueca. These trees, several hundred years old are a masterpiece of nature, gnarled, imposing and a home to many forms of wildlife through the seasons.

They are an inspiration.

My simple design objective is to make pieces that are both fit for purpose and and pleasing to the eye
