• These boards often turn out to be “statement pieces” and can make a wonderful and unusual dining table centrepiece. I don’t make many long boards as offcuts long enough are not that common but I have stored up a few over the years. They look great on a large serving table loaded with cheeses and charcuterie items. They are easier to use with handles and I can fit simple handles on suitable boards.

  • These are boards that are larger than cheese boards in both dimensions, but not long. Usually they require two hands to place on a table. The larger size lends itself to more varied designs and the use of wider feature timbers. The larger size means great flexibility in use.

  • The smaller boards make great cheese serving boards. Folks who have one tell me that they are a great talking point and are light enough to handle with one hand.

  • These are my special boards. They may have involved extra processes to make or have unusual insertions of colorized resin or special timbers. Or they may feature a very special piece of timber from my collection.

Making my boards

Timber for Moonah Design Woodwork boards is sourced in part from offcuts from previous furniture making projects. These offcuts might otherwise be wasted. Offcut pieces are usually combined with a special piece from my collection of high grade or exotic timbers to create the desired board design. I make five types of board categorized on how I use them in our home and how folks who have one tell me they use them. Some of these boards can take 8 or more hours to make and these I class as Premium Boards - though some are also in the Kitchen Board category.
